Board of Directors: Biographies

Microland has an experienced and distinguished Board, with the Board Members bringing in multi-industry experience.

Chris Caldwell

Chris Caldwell is the Senior Vice President for Global Business of SYNNEX Corporation, a Fortune 500 Company. Chris joined SYNNEX in 2004 as Vice President, Emerging Business and has been instrumental in assisting SYNNEX in its build-out of value-add services and business model diversification. Previously, he provided consulting services in M&A and restructuring of hitech and service businesses. From 1988-2000, Chris was President and CEO of Coral Tech. He has received numerous rewards and recognition for his entrepreneurial approach to business.

Deepak Malik

Deepak Malik is a Managing Director of Black River Asset Management, a global asset management company with more than $9 billion of assets under management.

Following six years in Silicon Valley, he relocated to New Delhi, India to provide regional oversight of several cross border investments, and to capitalize on growth equity investment opportunities driven by macroeconomic changes. Deepak has broad global operational and strategy experience. He has in-depth knowledge of the information services and software industry, with discipline around operational performance, margin and cost structures underlying those businesses.

From 2000-2006, Deepak was co-founder & Managing Director of Cargill Ventures, a venture capital firm associated with Cargill Inc. Deepak led the investment strategy around software, business process services and serves on the Boards of KPIT Cummins (KPIT), Outsource Partners International (OPI) and OB10. In addition, he led the investments in Intalio and Informance and remains on those Boards. Deepak's past investments include IndX Software (acq. by Siemens), FIMI (acq. by DTN), and Grand Central (acq. by Google). He also led and oversaw Cargill Ventures' investments in Sequoia Capital India and GEM Investment Advisors.

Prior to starting Cargill Ventures, he worked in Cargill's Strategy and Business Development Group where he managed corporate strategies and mergers & acquisitions within the petroleum, natural gas, electricity, grain & oilseeds trading and meat industries, following a year in international sales for Cargill's fertilizer division. Earlier in his career, he was an investment associate with Merrill Lynch.

Deepak holds a B.A. in Economics from Delhi University, a M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and an M.B.A. from Cornell University. He is a Charter Member of TiE.

Jawahar Bekay

Jawahar Bekay is the Chief Strategy Officer of GCI Inc., a $300 million US enterprise which has been rated by Deloitte & Touché as one of the fastest growing companies in the USA, 5 years in a row. Additionally, as the MD India he oversees the company's various Indian operations.

Bekay is a co-founder and former CEO of Microland Limited and associated with the company since its inception. Between 2002 and 2005 he was the CEO of Planetasia, Asia's pioneering e-business software services company.

Prior to this Bekay has been in various capacities with companies such as the Tata NELCO and Computer Point - India's first retail chain of computers. He was based in the Silicon Valley, USA while setting up the export service business for Sonata Software in the late eighties.

With over 24 years of experience in building and managing technology businesses, he has been involved with outsourcing and the IT Services industry since its nascent stages. His expertise spans building and managing businesses and leaders.

He is a Charter Member of TiE (The IndUS Entrepreneurs), Bangalore Chapter and co-chairs the International Committee for the chapter. In the past, he has been a member of various industry bodies as well. Bekay is a graduate alumnus of St Xavier's College, Mumbai and a post graduate alumnus of SP Jain Institute, Mumbai.

Latika Monga

Latika Monga is the Chief Executive Officer of Asiastar Capital Pte Ltd. Prior to this, she was CEO of JP Morgan Partners Singapore. She continues to manage investments made in India on behalf of JP Morgan Partners (JPMP) and other investors. Earlier, she was a founding partner of Citigroup Venture Capital's (CVC) Indian operations between 1995 and 2001. Prior to that, she worked with Citigroup from 1986 through 2001, and her last assignment was Head of the Western Region for Citibank's Indian corporate banking group. Latika received her Bachelor of Commerce from Delhi University and her MBA at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

Pradeep Kar

A visionary and industry pioneer, Pradeep leveraged the power of networking & e-business technologies long before they were recognized as critical business enablers when he founded Microland in 1989. Under Pradeep's leadership, Microland has emerged as a leading Indian IT Infrastructure Management Services Provider.

Pradeep's philosophy of driving business transformation by leveraging Remote Infrastructure Management, with a strong customer-driven service perspective has enabled Microland to grow to 12 locations, 5 Operation Management Centers and 2000 people. Today, Microland is the Outsourcing Partner of Choice for many Global & Fortune companies.

A serial entrepreneur, Pradeep has founded Planetasia, India's first Internet Professional Services Company (which was acquired by a US Software Services company); Indya.com, India's leading portal (which was acquired by News Corporation) and Net Brahma, a telecom software company (that was acquired by a US telecom equipment company in 2001). He merged his Internet Media Business, Media2india with Connecturf (India's leading online marketing company) and also founded ITspace, India's premier technology portal in 1999.

A member of the Technology Advisory Panel to the Government of Karnataka, Pradeep is the President of The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE), Bangalore Chapter and is the Founding Member of the Young Presidents Organization, Bangalore.

He is a Non-Executive Director of United Business Media plc (one of the world's leading global business information companies headquartered in London), is on the Advisory Board of Leaders Quest (an international social enterprise based in London), and is also on the Advisory Board of the Bangalore Chapter of AIESEC (the world's largest student organization).

Pradeep is a frequent speaker on industry trends and his leadership acumen has been recognized with numerous accolades. Notable among these is the Indian Express "India Young Business Achiever Award", the World Economic Forum award for the 'Global Leader for Tomorrow'. He has also been featured in 'Newsweek International' as 'Stars of Asia' and in 'Business India' as 'Stars of India'.

Pradeep holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Post Graduate degree in Management.

Pravin Gandhi

Pravin Gandhi is a Director in "SEED FUND", an early stage fund launched in 2006. He is also a Managing Partner of "Infinity Venture Fund", an early stage fund launched in year 1999-2000.

With operational and management experience spanning 30 odd years, he was one of the early IT entrepreneurs having promoted Hinditron in 1972 and a successful IPO in 1988.

He has been an angel investor in various IT Companies and is a member of the boards of several companies including Schiller Healthcare.

He is at present, President of TiE, Mumbai. He also is an active advisor of Aavishkaar (a social venture fund).

Pravin is a graduate in Industrial Engineering from Cornell University.

Venetia Kontogouris

Venetia Kontogouris joined Trident Capital in 1999 as a Managing Director. Before joining Trident, Venetia was an executive from 1983 to 1995 at Dun & Bradstreet Corporation and related entities including IMS Health Incorporated and Cognizant Corporation. She was also President of Enterprise Associates LLC, the venture capital division of IMS Health Incorporated, where she represented Enterprise Associates in respect of its partnership interest in Information Associates and Information Associates-II (Trident's Fund II and Fund III).

Prior to that, Venetia was Senior Vice President, Venture Development, at Cognizant Corporation, where she represented Cognizant in the Information Partners Capital Fund formed by Dun & Bradstreet and Bain Capital. Venetia has held executive positions in new product development and marketing at D&B and sales management positions at AT&T and IBM. She has also launched her own start-up telecommunications company.

Venetia's current directorships include Advantec, DepotPoint, Invention Machine Corporation, Microland, Neilsoft, Outsource Partners International, Odyssey Logistics & Technology, MeMedia, Questra Corporation, Sphere, Teranode Corporation, Vidavee and board observer to Vurv (which acquired People Business Network).

Her past directorships include Avesta Technologies, Inc. (acquired by Visual Networks (VNWK)), Berkeley Enterprise Partners, Inc. (acquired by Extraprise, Inc.), Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTSH), C-7 Group, Inc., CrossMedia Services (acquired by a consortium of major national newspaper groups), Customer Analytics, Inc. (acquired by Exchange Applications), eCredit.com, Inc. (acquired by Internet Capital Group), eData Resources, Inc. (acquired by The Daily Mail), Event Zero, Internet Profiles Corporation (acquired by CMGI), Jostens Learning Corporation, OneSource Information Services, Inc. (ONES), T.R.A.D.E., Inc., Vality Technology, Inc. (acquired by Ascential Software (ASCL)), Viant Corporation (VIAN) (acquired by Divine), and Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates.

Venetia earned her B.A. from Northeastern University and her M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
